This is somewhat of an insult to businesses that pay top dollar for licensed copies of Microsoft Office or other Microsoft products. We know now the importance and absolutely necessity of knowing which account is used to activate the product, but we did not know this 7 years ago when the product was activated and when Microsoft started this completely different process of obsoleting a Product Key. Hi Mark, I took your post to say that your Office Professional came preinstalled, not that you purchased Office Professional and Dell installed it for you. This was a big mistake by Dell.

Sorry to say that you are not the first person to suffer at the hands of Dell in this way. Saving the Product Keys may be your salvation, as it goes to proof of purchase and to back this up you have the invoice.

The Dell technician should have known this and was negligent by setting up Office using a Microsoft Account not belonging to you.
